Having dabbled in bits and pieces of the sound before on many occasions, Diana Rhodes naturally had a smooth time working in the multitude of elements on ‘beachcomber’, combining an array of samples that swing from groovy mainline pieces to chilled out intermission periods and back again. The summery, blown out texture of effects laid out over top just helps to add onto the mission statement of the album.
Images of beaches, the city strip, and nightlife unfolding as the evening fades out begin to intertwine in the areas where these sounds diverge from each other, tied together by texture and meticulous adjustments of pace and mood.
A nineteen minute mix sends it all off, blending together the elements of its previous exploits in a much more literal fashion, sliding from one sound to the next seamlessly, in contrast to the segmented portions of the preceding tracks. Heavier layers of static appear as well, adding extra flavor to it that sets the whole of the final half apart from the rest.
