A mentally unbalanced man is obsessed with the idea that a black cat is possessed. He tortures and kills it. Later, he comes to believe that the cat has returned from the dead to kill him.
Original The Black Cat is a 1934 American pre-Code horror film directed by Edgar G. Ulmer and starring Boris Karloff and Béla Lugosi.

Der erfolglose Autor Lou erhält von seiner Frau am ersten Jahrestag eine schwarze Katze als Geschenk. Als er sich betrinkt, greift er seine Frau an und glaubt im Wahn, die Katze sei die Reinkarnation des Vaters, den er immer gehasst hat. So versucht Lou, der Katze den Garaus zu machen, wobei seine Brutalität immer grenzenloser, seine Trinkerei immer zügelloser und sein Wahnsinn immer größer wird. Lou foltert die Katze zu Tode, doch dann taucht eine neue schwarze Katze auf und Lou ist panisch, dass sie gekommen ist, um sich an ihm zu rächen.
