Words Of A Middle Man
‘Words of a middle man‘ ist ein WLAN-Router, der Kommunikationsverbindungen im eigenen Netzwerk analysiert und auf einem integrierten Bildschirm darstellt. Die maschinelle Kommunikation zwischen allen im Netzwerk beteiligten Akteuren – also Menschen, Geräte und Server – wird in natürliche Sprache übersetzt und somit für Menschen lesbar und verständlich. Aus der Position des erzählenden Beobachters, gibt der Router Aufschluss über Aktivität und Inhalt der zwischen Mensch und Computer geführten Dialoge.

Sun Boxes are an environment to enter and exit at will. It’s comprised of twenty speakers operating independently, each powered by the sun via solar panels. There is a different loop set to play a guitar note in each box continuously. These guitar notes collectively make a Bb chord. Because the loops are different in length, once the piece begins they continually overlap and the piece slowly evolves over time.
Rows of motorised measuring tapes record the amount of time that visitors stay in the installation. As a computerised tracking system detects the presence of a person, the closest measuring tape starts to project upwards. When the tape reaches around 3m high it crashes and recoils back.
Each hour, the system prints the total number of minutes spent by the sum of all visitors.

This is an ongoing series of constructed photographs rooted in the forest. These works, carried out in Surrey, Hampshire and Wales,involve site specific interventions in the landscape, ‘wrapping’ trees with white material to construct a visual relationship between tree, not-tree and the line of horizon according to the camera’s viewpoint.

‘Poses‘ is a direct criticism of the absurd and artificial world of glamour and of fashion that magazines present. Specifically, the highly-distorted image of women that they transmit through models that do not represent real women and that avoid all those who are not within their restricted parameters.
These images are virtually the only feminine reference in the mass media and they have a great influence in both men and women when building our roles in terms of behavior and ways of thinking.
Using these impossible stances of the fashion publishing houses as a symbol of how grotesque and unreal this industry is, a group of real women transfer these poses to daily scenes: the queue of a museum, the supermarket or the bus stop, sparking off the reaction of the spectators (on the other hand, regular consumers of these images).
The aim: to make it clear how ridiculous, and at times harmful, it can be to follow these models that the world of glamour impose on us.

The school of time
Based on the structure of karaoke, NO CURE features four 80-year-old Germans, singing the lyrics of three The Cure songs: Cold, One Hundred Years and Sinking. The haunting electronic score composed by Melbourne composer David Chisholm uses leitmotifs of Richard Wagner’s opera Götterdämmerung (Twilight of the Gods) to accompany the lyrics and the work drifts into a poetic and eerie comment on the transience of life and memory.

Tunnel is a kinetic, immersive and interactive sculpture, composed of 92 porticos that become disordered in function of the position and body mass of the interactor.
Numerous users can simultaneously enter and interact with the machine. Interactors agency the machine via their position and weight. An example of interaction is: you go into the Tunnel and stand by one of the sidewalls. In this case, the relative position and the gravitational force of your body provoke variations of floor height. The floor inclines up to 5º, the associated porticos progressively rotate in the corresponding direction and angle, and this propagates undulatory movements throughout the entire installation. For the outside observer, the internal movement or your displacement in relation to the installation produces kinetic optic effects.

Just like in the bathroom of my boarding school as a child, a ligne of taps are facing us.
Of course, they are dripping. On top of them, where the mirrors are, we’ve set fifteen radios. The loudspeakers wires, splitted and stripped, are set under the taps.
As they fall, the drops restore briefly the electrical contact, and the radios emit sounds. Like a sequencer-tap-scratch, the radiophonic flow is chopped and mixed without care. As one listen simultaneously the fifteen radios, it creates a rhythmic and playful universe in which collides the meteoroligical bulletin, a cantata of Bach, the Top 50, the last terrorist attack, and adds for detergents. A radio and tap tale.
The volume of sound is weak, and it is necessary to move close and listen carrefully.
A common phrase in any metropolis is the term “people watching.” This game takes the restful past-time and adds an interactive element. Made by Rune Madsen, Scott Wayne Indiana, Nien Lam and Nikolas Psaroudakis.

Chirality is a scientific term describing a structure that is not identical to its mirror image. “Chiral” collects cinematic etudes, which develop various conceptual approaches in order to expand the two-dimensional image into space. They are projected onto a sculpture (510 x 260 x 370 cm) and a screen (250 x 200 cm) made from handmade Taiwanese paper and develop very different lives on these configurations of the same material.
The amalgamation of volumetric lights sets ideas from Chinese calligraphy into motion and melts them with influences from European Art Informel as well as impasto painting to an abstract-organic sculpture. The installation is completed by a soundtrack by Austrian composer Richard Eigner (ritornell.at). With the premiere in MOCA Taipei the first iteration of the long-term project was presented…

My little piece of Privacy
“My little piece of Privacy” is a robotic curtain which is too small for the window where it is installed. But since it is robotic and controlled by a laptop (running some processing code which does the computer vision), it detects the location of pedestrians outside and positions itself rapidly to where they are, thus not only blocking their looks inside, but also serving as a playful installation for people on the street. The rapid positioning of the curtain is done with a custom linear servo drive. It is basically a DC gearmotor which is controlled by an Atmega, programmed in AVR-GCC (as the Arduino-style-GCC performed to slow to handle the job). Processing code and AVR-GCC code are both on the page for download, as well as plans and schematics for building the linear servo.
