Camera – Emotional Detox
Started as the so called “Krautrock Guerrilla” in 2012, six years later the Berlin combo Camera are releasing their fourth full-length album. Customarily associated with the likes of NEU! and La Düsseldorf it is time to allow Camera to break free of the krautrock tradition and accept that they are very much doing their own thing now. Motto: “It’s not repetition, it’s discipline”
This program should allow the average runner to complete a 5 kilometre run at a reasonable pace. Included are 3 minute warmup and warm down pieces. Written by Martin Zeichnete this program was used by the East German Olympians in the 1970s.
For the first time since it was recorded in East Berlin over 30 years ago the music of Martin Zeichnete can finally be heard. A disciple of the Kosmische Muzik of the likes of Kraftwerk, Can and Neu! that was drifting across the Wall from the West, Martin’s idea of using the motorik, hypnotic beat of krautrock in the training of athletes was taken and exploited by the DDRs Olympic Committee.
Following a long line of psychonaut ancestors, the German collective called Datashock have laid a bread crumb trail of essential yet hard to find releases that leads the hungry sound consumer to this, their newest release. “LiveLoveData$” is the sound of a group of individuals joining together for a mind meld of epic proportions, coalescing into an unified amorphous ooze that slides right off the terms psychedelic or krautrock, and guides one forward down paths lit by the ancients and pointed towards the stars.

Between 1968 and 1977 bands like Neu!, Can, Faust and Kraftwerk would look beyond western rock and roll to create some of the most original and uncompromising music ever heard. They shared one common goal – a forward-looking desire to transcend Germany’s gruesome past – but that didn’t stop the music press in war-obsessed Britain from calling them Krautrock.
