We’ll Meet Again — “Dr. Strangelove”

From “Dr. Strangelove, Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb” (1964). The song is “We’ll Meet Again,” introduced in World War II by Vera Lynn. It’s terminally mawkish but undeniably affecting, widely sung in England by soldiers who knew that “meet again” had a good chance of happening, umm, only in heaven. Slim Pickens is the nuclear cowboy (“Major Kong”). The song here is pretty much as it was used in the movie, except with a twist: I doctored it to blend Vera Lynn’s version with one 40 years later by … get this … Lily Tomlin and The Muppets. The internet doesn’t have enough room for all the exclamation marks that deserves. Please don’t call me a pinko commie tool or Neville Chamberlain or a paid apologist for North Korea … I simply think it’s a brilliant juxtaposition of music and image.
