windows95 makes lo-fi ambient for people who actually live in discomfort rather than aesthetic tourism. Cheap synths and field recordings of domestic failure—heating pipes, fluorescent hum, the sound of your apartment slowly falling apart. It’s less Eno, more the ambient equivalent of staying up until 3am in someone else’s spare room. Weird and Eerie gets its title right: the uncanny made mundane.
